When we started the online registration for one of our pilot customers, we saw an increasing number of foreign users making registrations from a region, where we would not have expected to find so many scientists in that field. Yes, it was an academic conference about permafrost and we received many registrations from regions in Africa, where there are not so many glaciers or permafrost locations. After some short exchange with the organizing committee, we knew that there have been definitely no scientists expected from this region.
Later, after several similar registrations, we received many requests for confirmation letters, special documents for traveling or also requests for immigration visas. Therefore, it was quickly clear that these people are primarily interested to receive visa and travel permission for Europe. Sometimes, they told us by mail also stories about special departments of the government that should confirm the urgency of the requested documents.
From discussions with many PCOs and other agencies and organizers, we heard the same stories. All of us have made more or less the same experiences.
In Eveni, we have today in each online registration setup a handful of such curios registrations.
Actually, we see it internally as kind of challenge to estimate how many days it takes until we have our first curious registration on one of our new launched conferences sites.
Sometimes it astonishes how fast they find a new possibility to make a registration without even an official announcement for the conference.
